Kings Acquire Defenseman O'Donnell From Ducks

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired defenseman Sean O?Donnell from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a conditional draft selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today. O?Donnell, 36, is set to enter his 14th NHL season. He played for the Kings from 1994-2000, and in 932 career NHL regular season games with the Kings, Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes, Boston Bruins, New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild, the 6-3, 234-pound native of Ottawa has 177 points (27-150=177) and 1,558 penalty minutes. He has also played in 87 career NHL playoff games, and has 16 points (6-10=16) and 120 penalty minutes in post-season action. O?Donnell has played the last two-and-one-half seasons with the Ducks, including the 2006-07 campaign when they won the Stanley Cup. He made his NHL debut with the Kings during the 1994-95 season and he played six seasons with the Kings. He played in 381 career games with the Kings, totaling 71 points (12-59=71) and 799 penalty minutes, and his 381 games played rank 10th on the Kings? all-time list among defensemen and his 799 penalty minutes rank fifth among defensemen. He also played in eight playoff games with the Kings and had two points (both goals).

Preds Acquire Tarnasky From Tampa Bay

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired forward Nick Tarnasky from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for a conditional selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. The pick sent to the Lightning is Nashville?s sixth-round choice, unless Tarnasky plays more than 55 NHL games in 2008-09, in which case it turns into a fifth-round selection. Tarnasky, 23 (11/24/84), has played 169 National Hockey League games with the Lightning since 2005-06, amassing 20 points (11g-9a) and 162 penalty minutes. He attained career highs in games played (80), goals (6) and points (10) in 2007-08, in addition to tying a career best for assists (4). A native of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, the 6-2, 224-pound center also played six playoff games for Tampa Bay in 2007. He was originally Tampa?s eighth selection (ninth round, 287th overall) in the 2003 Entry Draft held in Nashville. Nashville now has 12 picks in next summer?s 2009 NHL Entry Draft in Montreal, including a first rounder, two second rounders, two third rounders, three fourth rounders, two fifth rounders and two seventh rounders.

Anaheim Trades Schneider To Thrashers

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired defenseman Ken Klee, left wing Brad Larsen and left wing Chad Painchaud from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for defenseman Mathieu Schneider. Klee, 37 (4/24/71), appeared in 72 contests with Atlanta in 2007-08, earning 1-9=10 points. The Indianapolis, IN native appeared in a career-high 81 contests with Colorado in 2006-07, leading the club in plus/minus (+18). The blueliner achieved career bests in assists (25) and points (29) while with Toronto in 2003-04. A veteran of 863 NHL games with five clubs (Washington, Toronto, New Jersey, Colorado and Atlanta), Klee has collected 54-130=184 points with 852 penalty minutes (PIM) and a career +21 rating. Originally selected by Washington in the ninth round (177th overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-1, 210-pound defenseman has also appeared in 51 career Stanley Cup Playoff contests, reaching the Eastern Conference Final with Washington in 1998. Larsen, 31 (6/28/77), appeared in 62 contests with Atlanta in 2007-08, earning 1-3=4 points with 12 penalty minutes (PIM). The 6-0, 210-pound winger played in a career-high 72 games with the Thrashers in 2006-07, while also tying a career high for goals (7). He had a career year in 2005-06, establishing highs in goals (7), assists (8), points (15) and shorthanded goals (3). Larsen has appeared in 294 career NHL contests with Colorado and Atlanta, earning 19-29=48 points with 134 PIM. The Nakusp, British Columbia native appeared in 21 postseason contests with Colorado in 2002 en route to an appearance in the Western Conference Final before being eliminated by Detroit in seven games. He was originally selected by Colorado in the fourth round (87th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry draft. Painchaud, 22 (5/27/86), split the 2007-08 season with Chicago (AHL) and Gwinnett (ECHL). The 6-1, 185-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario has appeared in 82 career ECHL contests, earning 30-37=67 points with 88 PIM. Selected by Atlanta in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Painchaud collected 69-78=147 points in 174 career OHL games with Mississauga and Sarnia. He led Sarnia in goals (31), assists (34) and points (65) in 2005-06, while also establishing personal bests in all categories. Painchaud represented the Western Conference in the 2006 OHL All-Star Classic and was also named the OHL Player of the Week on Mar. 20, 2005. Schneider, 39 (6/12/69), appeared in 65 contests for Anaheim in 2007-08 after signing a two-year contract on July 1, 2007. He collected 12-27=39 points, finishing second among club defenseman in scoring and third overall in plus/minus (+22). He also became the sixth U.S.-born defenseman to reach 700 career NHL points with an assist in Anaheim?s contest vs. San Jose on Mar. 28, 2008. Selected by Montreal in the third round (44th overall) of the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, Schneider has appeared in 1,197 career NHL games over 20 seasons. He has collected 212-490=702 points with a career +73 rating with Montreal, NY Islanders, Toronto, NY Rangers, Los Angeles, Detroit and Anaheim. A member of Montreal?s 1993 Stanley Cup championship team, Schneider has also played for Team USA in two Olympic Games (1998 in Nagano and 2006 in Turin) and at the 1996 World Cup (gold medal).

Canadiens Acquire Lang, Sign Brisebois

The Canadiens dealt a second-round pick in the 2010 draft to the salary cap-strained Blackhawks on Friday for Robert Lang, a 37-year-old centre who had 21 goals and 33 assists last season in Chicago. They also brought back defenceman Patrice Brisebois, an unrestricted free agent, on a one-year deal worth $750,000, with a chance to earn another $750,000 in bonuses, as reported by the Canadian Press.

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have acquired defenseman Sean Zimmerman from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for left wing Kevin Cormier. Zimmerman will take part in the upcoming Coyotes Rookie Camp and Training Camp. Zimmerman, 21, spent last season with the Lowell Devils of the American Hockey League (AHL), recording six assists and 47 penalty minutes (PIM) in 66 games. He also skated in eight games with the Trenton Devils of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). In 2006-07, the native of Denver, Colo. represented the United States in the World Junior Championships. He also completed his junior hockey career by collecting 2-12-14 and 69 PIM in 60 games with Spokane of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In four seasons with Spokane, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Zimmerman recorded 10-49-59 and 165 PIM in 270 games. He was originally drafted by New Jersey in the sixth round (170th overall) of the 2005 Entry Draft. Cormier, 22, played for the Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League (CHL) last season, collecting 3-2-5 and 104 PIM in 23 games. He was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the sixth round (168th overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft.

Leafs Officially Trade McCabe To Panthers

Cliff Fletcher, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the team has traded defenseman Bryan McCabe and their fourth-round draft selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to the Florida Panthers. In exchange, the Maple Leafs receive veteran defenseman Mike Van Ryn. Van Ryn, 29, completed his seventh NHL season and fourth with Florida in 2007-08. A wrist injury in November and the subsequent surgery sidelined him for the final 60 games last season. The native of London, Ontario recorded two points (both assists) in 20 contests in 2007-08. He turned professional after signing as a free agent by St. Louis on June 30, 2000 and he was later traded to Florida on March 11, 2003 for Valeri Bure and Florida?s fifth-round choice (Nikita Nikitin) in the 2004 Entry Draft. Van Ryn set career-highs in goals (13), points (37-tie) and powerplay goals (six) in his first season with the Panthers in 2003-04. Last season with Toronto, McCabe recorded five goals and 18 assists in 54 games with 81 penalty minutes. McCabe, 33 ranks sixth on the club?s all-time scoring list among team defencemen with 297 points by virtue of his 83 goals and 214 assists. He is tied for 33rd on the Leafs? all-time scoring list and he sits in 32nd spot on the team?s all-time games played list with 523 games.
